Greek Lamb and Beef Gyros

These authentic greek gyros are so delicious. I’ve had gyros with just beef or chicken before but I wanted to try them with lamb. When I say it makes a world of difference I mean it! The gyro meat is so flavorful and delicious, paired with the light and tangy tzatziki sauce this recipe is to die for! Make sure you guys try this one out and let me know what you think.   1. Preheat oven to 325°F and grease a loaf pan
  2. In a food processor add 1 pound ground lamb, 1 pound ground beef, 1/4 cup ice, 2 tsps each- salt, pepper, cumin, oregano, cayenne, thyme, smoked paprika, tumeric, onion powder, garlic powder, and garam masala.

3. Pulse mixture until everything is fully combined.

4. Once mixture is fully combined spoon it into the loaf pan and compress with parchment paper.

5. Add a kitchen towel to the bottom of a baking dish, add loaf pan to the baking dish. Add boiling water to the out dish until it is half way up the loaf pan.

6. Bake for 60 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 160°F.

    7. While the meat is cooking slice 1/2 a red onion and cut up some cherry tomatoes. Then start on the tzatziki sauce.

    8. Grate one cucumber and squeeze out as much water as you can.

    9. To a medium bowl add the cucumber, 1.5 cups greek yogurt, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1/2 Tbsp dill, 2 Tbsps olive oil, 1 Tbsp red or white wine vinegar, and salt to taste.

    10. Mix together until well combined. Set in the refrigerator until meat is ready.

    11. Once meat is done cooking remove from oven and let cool. Then slice into thin slices.

    12. Heat a pita in the microwave or on the stove until heated through.

    13. Add 2 clices of meat to the pita and top with tzatziki, onions, and tomatoes.

    14. Enjoy!

    Ingredients

    • 1 pound ground lamb

    • 1 pound ground beef

    • 2 tsps each-onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, cayenne, thyme, smoked paprika, tumeric, garam masala, salt and pepper

    • 1/4 cup ice

    • 1/2 red onion

    • Cherry tomatoes

    • 8-Pitas

    • Tzatziki sauce
    • 1 cucumber, shredded

    • 1.5 cups greek yogurt (Fage for lactose free)

    • 1/2 Tbsp dill

    • 2 cloves garlic, minced

    • 2 Tbsps olive oil

    • 1 Tbsp white or red wine vinegar

    • salt, to taste

    Directions

    • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a loaf pan.
    • In a food processesor add lamb, beef, seasonings, and ice. Pulse until everything is well combined.
    • Spoon mixture into the loaf pan. Use parchment paper to push down the mixture so its fully compacted in the pan.
    • In a casserole dish line the bottom with a kitchen towel and place the loaf pan on top of it.
    • Place the dish in the oven and add boiling water to the outer pan until it comes about half way up the loaf pan.
    • Bake for 60 minutes or until internal temperature is 160°F.
    • While the meat is cooking slice half a red onion and dice up some cherry tomatoes.
    • Remove loaf pan from oven and let cool.
    • Slice meat into thin slices.
    • Heat a pita in the microwave or on the stove until heated through.
    • Add meat to pita, top with tzatziki sauce, red onion and tomatoes.
    • Enjoy!
    • Tzatziki sauce
    • Shred one cucumber and squeeze out all of the water.
    • Add cucumber to a bowl with the greek yogurt, dill, garlic, olive oil, red/white wine vinegar and salt.
    • Mix until everything is fully combined.
    • Place in the refrigerator until you are ready to add it to your gyro.
